Our cultural foodie moment means that there are heaps of food-related news stories, info pieces and commentaries that appear on a daily basis. Here are our favourites of the week.
Freshly back from NYC, I was very happy to see that two places I frequented (Roberta’s and The Dutch) were mentioned in Sam Sifton’s farewell New York Times dining section article. In fact, I asked my friends to take me to Roberta’s in Bushwick based on Sam’s recent glowing review—it was my favourite meal of the trip. And hands down, the best pizza I’ve ever had.
An easy topic to discuss at the dinner table is what you would have for your last meal. With Texas recently ending this tradition, the NY Times talked to someone who actually cooked last meals for death row inmates. They are not the meals of your dreams.
If macarons are the new cupcakes, then you need to know how to spot a good one (or rather, how to spot a bad one). Because with everybody doing it, there’s going to be lots of duds.
Looks like Canadian menus are getting bloody.

I’m planning on going to The Dutch this weekend and was considering cancelling my reservation due to hearing it was way over-hyped. What do you think??? Is it worth the visit? As you can see, this is causing me much anxiety!

I think it’s definitely worth a visit to see what it’s like. I really enjoyed my meal, but we had a horrible table. I don’t think I’d rush back, but I’m glad I tried it.
